- another note from Franco:
I have just gotten back to Durban on my way to Lesotho by Monday. I gave my self 4 days to travel the otherwise 1-2 day journey; Easter Holiday Traffic. The buses are already filling up.I'm keeping myself healthy. I just completed a hike up the coast from Bulungula to Mdumbe, 30 miles, 2 days through very rural, undeveloped African coastline. I went a like minded and equally fit young lady Lynda, and had a very rewarding experience. Drinking Mqombote (a local beer 1-3% alcohol by volume) with the Xhosa on the way, hearing a school's afternoon chorus practice and walking through this stunning countryside. This is the Shipwreck Coast for a reason, towering bits of the earth pierce through breath-taking beachs, stretching into the sky meeting the rippling hills, 100's of ft tall.
I was living at Bulungula for 12 days before the walk. My Xhosa phrase book is now at 11 pages. I have surprised myself with my childish wonder with the Xhosa language. The language requires me to learn how to make a new sound, and to have my ear learn to hear it and listen for it. Let me give
you an example: Mqombote (xhosa beer) pronounce the m-, then a bass click (the tongue striking the back top of the mouth.) and then -ombote.

So. M - *bass click* - om bote

I find it fun to speak. These are the noises are mothers told us not to make as children. Play around for awhile, moms not around right now. Click! Play with it. Maybe its natural to maybe you're a natural. The hard bit. Try the M - *bass click* - om bote. Don't feel bad if its hard at first. Try, try, try again. If you really want to get it goto the Transkei. As long as you're a friendly person with the ability to laugh at yourself, everybody will embrace you because the only word in Xhosa you know is beer.

My love to all,
Franco

- another note from the editor - [ 03 | 06 ]

again i thank you for re-visiting the website. i have just uploaded the first batch of the most recent correspondence (all of the verbal documentation but a little less than half of the visual documentation). you may notice that the images from february are not currently on the site. they will be back, trust me. i am currently working on navigation tools to allow for a gallery type viewing system for both the verbal and the visual documentation that has a more functional interface. so until next time, take it easy and Go Sabres.

and yet another time... thank you for re-re-visiting the website. as you may already know, the previous documentations have been placed back on the site. the documentation interface may not be as functional as it can possibly be, but these are issues that unfortunately could not be dealt with prior to the recent correspondence, sorry. the new interface should be coming soon, but i cannot promise anything. nonetheless, take it easy and Go Sabres. [ we'll see you in the playoffs ottawa ]
